These Hungarian Oak Shavings are used in both wine and beer, and provides qualities similar to barrel aging. This type of oak provides a softer, smoother character than that of oak chips. The medium toast of these shavings allow for excellent flavors and aromas that couldn't be achieved without their addition. Their lighter surface area give a quick and more full extraction than that of other oaks. The suggested minimum contact time is 2 months, and for a 6 gallon batch 3-4 ounces is the typical amount to be used.
