Style Overview:
During the recent "pumpkin spice craze", Pumpkin Ales rose to popularity with the masses during the fall months and holiday season. They can be brewed as pale ales, wheat beers, porters or stouts. Many recipes, such as ours, use pumpkin spice, but a lot of folks like to make theirs using real pumpkin as well which we highly recommend. It's the perfect beer for the holiday season.

General Info:

  • Batch Size: 5 Gallons
  • Mash at 163
  • Ferment at 66 – 68 degrees
  • Est. Original Gravity: 1.065 SG
  • Est. Final Gravity: 1.017 SG
  • Est. Alcohol by Volume: 8%
  • Bitterness: 20 IBUs
  • Est. Color: 12 SRM
Malts and Adjuncts:
  • Light Dry Malt Extract
  • Caramel 60L
  • Victory
  • Pumpkin Spice
Hops:
  • German Hallertau Mittelfruh Hop Pellets

While pumpkin spice is included in this recipe we also suggest getting your hands on some fresh pumpkin as well. Here is a quick how to on incorporating fresh pumpkin into your beer!
  • Gut out a pumpkin
  • Remove all the seeds
  • Bake the pumpkin insides at 350F for 50 minutes
  • After the pumpkin cools to room temperature add to steeping grains
